A REJECTION EMAIL FROM A FAMED LITERARY EDITOR TO MANNY FURIOUS….
Greetings Manny,
I've read
this entire manuscript and would not recommend that you continue on this track.
I agree that protagonists don't have to be likable, but your characters are not
interesting at all and no one will want to read about them.
I don't want to waste your time or
money by encouraging you with unrealistic expectations. My sincere advice is to
stop what you're doing and consider how to use your skills as a writer to go in
an entirely new and more demanding direction. Consider a story based on what
you know, but with some potential for real drama, action, transformation (sic),
change, comedy, tragedy, human spirit, wisdom, inspiration.
Having worked with some writers who
go to the edge – H*****, T** *., K*******, others -- I can say with
admittedly subjective and idiosyncratic perspective that what you're
doing so far is puerile, pointless and has in my opinion no potential for
enlightenment, intellectual value, or entertainment.
(Editor’s note: Manny Furious did not know the meaning of the term, “puerile” and had to look it up in the dictionary.)
